Two awnings as an extension of a modern home
Enjoying a meal together, swimming, hiking or playing golf: Johny describes himself and his family as outdoorsy types. ‘As soon as the weather permits, we live outside.’ His newbuild was already fully designed to meet this need but two awnings proved to be the missing pieces of the puzzle that gave them even more enjoyment, both indoors and out.

Daytime cooling, atmospheric nights
The family opted for two separate awnings: one over the dining table and one over the sun loungers beside the swimming pool. In summer, creating shade is what it’s all about: over the table to dine in comfort, and over the sun loungers to cool off, read a book or enjoy a refreshing aperitif. ‘We make extensive use of the awnings; they truly are an extension of our home. They provide cooling during the day, and atmosphere at night.’

‘As soon as the sun goes down, we often keep the awnings open to retain some heat. That’s when the LED lighting comes on: it’s true bliss to relax here after a great barbecue.’
An aesthetic choice
First and foremost, the B27 folding arm awnings are practical, but aesthetically, they are also a perfect fit for the modern look and feel of the home. This is one of the reasons they are the favourite for many, including architects. The awnings are also perfect for integrating in the facade. ‘The style of our home definitely played a role in which awning to choose. Since it’s a modern home, it all had to be streamlined and understated. The awnings are subtle and are a quiet, elegant match for the design of the facade. Parasol bases and other loose objects disrupt that picture. And a pergola wouldn’t be a good fit for the architecture.’

Two dual-function awnings
The awnings also prove their value indoors. ‘This dual function is really what it’s all about for us: both outdoors and indoors. Even though we live in a newbuild home, it doesn’t take long for the sun to heat up our indoor spaces during the hottest months of the year. Our interior stays cooler since we installed the awnings. And during other seasons, the awnings can be set to block low sun if necessary. The screens operate automatically so if the sun is shining brightly or it gets too hot, they respond on their own. They immediately close automatically when it’s super windy which is really handy.’
‘We are getting so much enjoyment from them, not just with our own family but also when other people visit. The neighbours were so enthusiastic that they asked for more information and ended up installing Brustor awnings themselves. I can highly recommend them.’
